Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
